Chardonnay

Pronounced: shar-duh-NAY

History: Of French origin and is the principle white wine of Burgandy

Description: Medium yellow in colour becoming deeper with age. White grape variety producing some of the most famous dry white wines in the world. It can be sparkling or still with wood ageing or without and is blended with Semillon at times.

Taste/Aromas: Grapefruit, lemon, lime, hint of apricot. "Drink-now" styles will display peach, apricot, melon, fig, honey, lemon and limes. Barrel fermented wines will have a further dimension added of vanilla, toast, lanolin, coconut, caramel, smoky, caramel, cheesy, yeast, bread, vegemite, buttery and butterscotch.

Regions: Cooler climes of Western Australia and Yarra Valley in Victoria.

Cellaring: If you wish. But if you buy something that is 2 years old, there is no time like the present!

Food: Everything from light cheeses, cream soups, white meat, fish, salads, seafoods
